Abstract

The photoabsorption of discrete transitions of C+ and C++ ions was measured with a new experiment where the absorbing medium and the backlighter are both laser-generated plasmas. A stigmatic vacuum ultraviolet spectrograph is presented. The measure of absorption coefficients is used to derive the density scaling of the two ions in selected levels.
