Microscopic reasons for brittleness of high-chromium steels

Abstract

It is shown that Mössbauer spectroscopy is a well-suited tool for the quantitative analysis of the σ-phase and the Cr-rich (α′) phase the presence of which is the main reason for brittleness in high-Cr steel.
