Polymerization of Uranyl Ions and Its Role in Ion-Exchange Extraction of Uranium

  • Published:
Atomic Energy Aims and scope

Abstract

Systematic investigations were performed of the intensification of ion-exchange processes for extracting uranium from solutions and pulps during processing of polymetallic mineral stock. The crux of the process developed consisted in creating conditions under which polymer forms of uranyl are formed in solution and in the ionite phase. Several types of sorbents were studied. It was shown that the sorption characteristics were improved, and the optimal conditions for the process were determined. The character of the polymerization transformations of uranyl ions in the sorbent phase was determined. 5 figures, 11 references.
