Abstract
Attention is turned to the fact that, in contrast to the situation with engineering calculations where mainly technical parameters are used, economic calculations are based exclusively on economic indicators which take the form of deterministic estimates. This reduces the justification for the solutions adopted and, in particular, leads to an overestimating of the production tariffs and prices subject to state regulation. It is proposed to introduce a metrological methodology utilizing the concept of uncertainty of measurement into the practice of economic foundations. The advantages of the metrological approach are illustrated by calculating the tariff for heat energy in St. Petersburg by two alternative methods (the current expenditure method and the same method but modernized taking uncertainty into account).
