Influence of External Loads on the Reversible Effect of Shape Memory in Alloys of the Mn – Cu System

Abstract

The influence of stresses appearing under the action of external loads on reversible thermodeformation is studied for alloys with a reversible effect of shape memory in the Mn – Cu – Cr and Mn – Cu – Ni – Cr systems. It is shown that shear stresses influence considerably the reversible torsional thermodeformation of spiral wire specimens. The discovered effect is discussed under the assumption that there exist oriented stresses that can either increase or decrease the reversible thermodeformation when combined with the stresses caused by the external load.
