Nitrite Contamination of the Moskva River: Causes and Effects

  • Published:
Water Resources Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Abstract

The hydrochemical data on the Moskva River basin for the past 120 years are analyzed. The river self-purification capacity is found to have been severely damaged by heavily polluted wastewater. The transaqual landscapes are subject to permanent anthropogenic nitrite contamination. The causes, environmental effects, and the main ways of control of this contamination are considered.
