Abstract

The effect of pulsed high-voltage discharge (PHVD) on the conductivity of the proton solid electrolyte (PSE) RbHSO4 and its melt is studied. The conductivity of both forms significantly increases under the PHVD action (high-voltage activation phenomenon). A relative increase in the conductivity is 302% (195°C, 1.6 kV) and 579% (221°C, 3.3 kV), respectively. The phenomenon is accompanied by the memory effect: the excess conductivity induced by an external electrical field is retained for a long time. The relaxation of the excess conductivity is studied. Relaxation times of nonequilibrium charge carriers in solid and molten RbHSO4 vary from 0.7 × 103 to 1.0 × 104 s.
