Abstract
Allylation of 5-methylfurfural with allyl halide and zinc was performed by using quaternary ammonium and phosphonium salts as phase-transfer catalysts. The phosphonium salt showed higher activity than the ammonium salt. Excellent yields were obtained with both catalysts.
