Time Dependence of the Fracture Energy of Metals in Spallation

  • Published:
Combustion, Explosion and Shock Waves Aims and scope

Abstract

The form of the time dependence is analyzed in the 10−6 — 10−13 sec range of maximum stretching stresses in spallation and at the specific (per unit surface) fracture energy on the basis of experimental spallation data for geometrically similar specimens of a number of metals and for steel (St. 3) specimens in shock rarefaction waves. Strong scale effects of power nature were observed in metals upon spallation fracture.
