Enrichment of a Sample with Gaseous and Volatile Organic Components upon Its Discontinuous Introduction into a Portable Mass Spectrometer through a Membrane Inlet

Abstract

The introduction of an air sample into a mass spectrometer with the use of a multimembrane system allows one to enrich the original matrix with gaseous and volatile organic components. Experimental tests show that discontinuous leakage with a three-membrane inlet system reduces the detection limit by a factor of up to ∼105 (for toluene) compared to the direct introduction of a sample.
