Host Plant Modification to Insecticide Susceptibility in Myzus Persicae (Sulz.)

Abstract

The effects of established phenomena of plant resistance on the levels of tolerance to malathion of an organophosphate resistant strain of Myzus persicae viere investigated using topical application insecticide bioassay. Tolerance was significantly decreased when aphids were reared on the moderately aphid-resistant Brussels sprout variety Early Half Tall or on sprout plants given reduced nitrogen fertilization. Differences in insecticide tolerance were found to occur only at older plant ages. It is argued that the differences (less than 50% in LC50 terms) reported are of practical importance, and attention is drawn to much greater differences (5-fold) obtained in experiments at different times of the year.

Résumé

Modification de raison de la plante hôte de la susceptibilité contre insecticide de Myzus persicae (Sulz.). Au cours d’un bio-essai d’application insecticide locale, l’on a étudié les effets de phénomènes acquis de résistance végétale sur les niveaux de tolérance d’une race résistante aux organo-phosphorés de Myzus persicae. Lorsque les pucerons étaient élevés sur la variété “Early Half Tall” de choux de Bruxelles, connue d’être partiellement résistante aux pucerons ou sur des plantes de choux de Bruxelles ayant reçu une alimentation réduite en azote, la tolérance à l’insecticide avait significativement diminueé, même si l’on corrigait les résultats pour le poids plus bas de pucerons dans ces traitements. Les differences dans la tolérance à l’insecticide ont été trouvées d’apparaitre seulement pour les plantes plus âgées. Il est soutenu que les différences présentées (moins de 50% selon les termes de la CL50) sont d’une importance pratique, et l’on attire l’attention au fait que des différences plus grandes (facteur de cinq) ont été obtenues dans les essais effectués à d’autres époques de l’année.
