Influence of Food on Development and Reproduction of Hypoaspis Solimani N. Sp. (Acari: Laelapidae)

Hypoaspis solimani n. sp. was collected from compost from the farm of the Faculty of Agriculture, Cairo University, Giza, Egypt. Morphological characters of the different stages are described, illustrated and a key to the Egyptian species of Hypoaspis presented. H. solimani sp. n. was successfully reared on larvae of house fly, Musca domestica L. and vinegar fly, Drosophila melanogaster Morgan, and the two soil fungi, Macrophomina phaseoli and Fusarium oxysporum. The two kinds of prey proved to be the favoured diet, accelerating development and increasing female longevity and fecundity.

Hypoaspis solimani n. sp. a été collectée dans le compost des champs expérimentaux de la faculté d’Agriculture de l’Université du Cairo (Giza - Egypte).

Les caractéristiques morphologiques de différents stades sont décrites, illustrées et une clef des espèces égyptennes appartenant au genre Hypoaspis donnee. H. solimani sp. n. est elevee sur les larves de la mouche domestique, Musca domestica L. et les larves de la mouche du vinaigre, Drosophila melanogaster Morgan ainsi que sur les deux champignons des sols, Macrophomina phaseoli et Fusarium oxysporum. Ces deux hôtes semblent être les mieux adaptées comme le montrent un développement accélére et l’accroissement de la longévité et de la fécondité des femelles.
