Abstract
Studies have shown that the East African mosquito strain, Culex pipiens fatigans, is attracted to a synthetic oviposition attractant pheromone in the laboratory. Chemical analysis has shown that the main volatile component of the apical droplets is ( —)-(5R,6R) erythro-6-acetoxy-5-hexadecanolide. In contrast to the lack of response in the Sri Lankan strain of the same mosquito, the East African strain shows remarkable similarity in attraction response to the West African, American and Japanese strains of C p. fatigans.
Résumé
Des études au laboratoire ont montré que l’espece Culex pipiens fatigans (souche de l’Afrique de l’Est) est attire par un attractant synthetique “pheromone d’oviposition”. Des analyses chimiques ont montré que l’element le plus volatile est le ( —)-(5R,6R) erythro-6-acetoxy-5-hexadecanolide. Par contraste au manque de reponse chef la souche Sri-Lankaise de la même espece de moustique a l’attraction, la souche de l’Afrique de l’Est relexe une lemarquable ressemblance a celles de l’Afrique de l’Ouest, de l’Amerique et du Japon.
