Abstract
We describe an improved sample preparation method for pulsed filament desorption–ionization mass spectrometry. Samples were deposited in the presence of an excess of liquid or solid matrices. Especially with liquid matrices such as glycerol, this allowed stable and reproducible ion production for a variety of compounds, including biomolecules and synthetic polymers. Substances with molecular weights up to 3000 Da could be desorbed, ionized, and detected by time-of-flight mass spectrometry.
