Abstract

Anisopteromalus calandrae (Howard) (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae) parasitizes several stored product beetles. In this study, the development and morphology of the immature phases of the parasitoid living on the cigarette beetle, Lasioderma serricorne (F.) (Coleoptera: Anobiidae), are described from a laboratory using microscopic techniques. Lasioderma serricorne grown on aquafeed has five larval instars. Anisopteromalus calandrae most prefer to parasitize the fourth instar of the host. At the same time, it did not lay eggs on the first and fifth instars. Eggs are typically hymenopteriform with transparent and smooth chorion. Four larval instars of the parasitoid are recorded based on statistical analyses of head capsule width and body sizes. Development time from egg to adult emergence is 15.69 ± 1.86 days for females and 12.78 ± 1.54 for males at 30.0 ± 1.0 °C, 75.0 ± 3.0% RH and L:D = 12:12 photoperiod. The current study provides basic information on the external morphology and development of immature stages of Anisopteromalus calandrae.
