1 Space It Up: the Consortium Society for Italian Space Excellence is born

The establishment of the Limited Liability Consortium Company (SCARL) Space It Up (SIU) marks a new era of collaboration. This extended partnership, which obtained funding of 80 million euros from the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and the Ministry of Universities and Science (MUR), brings together 33 project members, including universities, research centers, and companies. Together, they will promote collaboration and innovation in the space sector, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose.

The coordination of Space It Up is entrusted to the Hub structure based in Turin. This structure will conduct research activities and participate in relevant national and international space projects.

SIU is set to significantly impact the space sector with its nine research lines (Spokes). These research lines will focus on a wide range of areas, including new missions for the protection and sustainable development of the planet and planetary exploration missions (Spoke 1); development of technology for the creation of "Digital twins", the so-called digital twins (Spoke 2); research in space remote sensing (Spoke 3); the design, development and qualification of high-resolution miniaturized detection systems for satellite missions in the coming decades that observe ionizing radiation around the Earth and water reservoirs on the Planet (Spoke 4); the frontier of the mitigation of Earth's natural and geological risks (Spoke 5); the investigation of scientific and technological problems within the network of physical processes that connect the Sun to terrestrial society (Spoke 6); research into the sustainability of human activities to ensure health for people and the planet, now and in future (Spoke 7); research and development activities to support future human missions in space (Spoke 8); research concerning travel and permanence in space and on extraterrestrial celestial bodies, in particular the Moon and Mars (Spoke 9). This diverse range of research lines underscores the Consortium's commitment to addressing key challenges and advancing knowledge in the space sector.

2 AIDAA Medals

AIDAA is pleased to announce the AIDAA Medals, awarded for outstanding and remarkable engineering achievements in the aerospace field. The medal is conferred each year by a committee of AIDAA members. AIDAA is committed to promoting excellence in aerospace engineering through its Medal Awards initiative. In 2024, AIDAA announced the Broglio Medal and the Gabrielli Medal, see www.aidaa.it/medals/.

The Broglio Medal winner will be officially awarded during the 75th International Astronautical Congress (IAC), held in Milan from October 14 to 18, 2024. The winner of the Gabrielli Medal will be officially awarded during the 34th International Council of the Aeronautical Sciences (ICAS), to be held in Florence from September 9 to 13, 2024.

3 AIAA/CEAS Aeroacoustics Conference

The 30th AIAA/CEAS Aeroacoustics Conference was held in Rome from 4 to 7 June 2024, https://www.aidaa.it/aeroacoustics/. With more than 500 attendees, this edition was the largest ever. The AIAA/CEAS Aeroacoustics Conference has established itself as the preeminent worldwide platform in aeroacoustics. Since the first AIAA/CEAS in Munich in 1995, this event has become the world's top platform for aeroacoustics scientists. This format is a one-of-a-kind example of something that began in aerospace and spread throughout engineering and research. The Aeroacoustics Conference's long-term success was confirmed and enhanced in Rome in 2024 by the attendance of the largest number of specialists and leaders from the aerospace industry, research centers, universities, and government officials.

7 Sustainable and Digital Mobility in CN-MOST

On June 21, 2024, the new campus NAPOLI EST of the University of Naples Federico II hosted the periodic meeting of the CN-MOST (Centro Nazionale per la Mobilità Sostenibile) Spoke 1 Air Mobility. This meeting marked approximately two-thirds of the project's timeline and provided an excellent opportunity to present the progress of the seven work packages within the Spoke.

Prof. Sergio De Rosa, the Federico II coordinator for Spoke 1, opened the meeting with a brief introduction, followed by the institutional address. Prof. Giorgio Guglieri from the Polytechnic University of Turin, the overall coordinator for Spoke 1, then provided an overview of the project's status. Subsequently, the leaders of the work packages summarized the details of their respective activities.

In the afternoon, Prof. Domenico Accardo, University of Naples Federico II, head of CESMA (https://www.cesma.unina.it/home-page.html), toured the laboratories and ongoing activities at the new campus.

The importance of the events collected by the #aeropaceitaly 2024, hosted by AIDAA, was also remarked, given the overall effort around sustainable air mobility themes.
