Interceram - International Ceramic Review

Abstract: A typical bulky insulation material applied in steel-making practice is rice husk ash. This natural raw material is CO2-neutral, sustainable and available in large amounts. Based on this outstanding raw material a newly shaped high-temperature insulation material was developed. Its properties are in the typical range of other state-of-the-art high-temperature insulation materials. Furthermore, a variety of classification temperatures up to 1540 °C have been realized with this new product family. By using the natural raw material rice husk ash, a sustainable and eco-friendly insulation material was created. The present work will give an overview about the new material, its production and properties, as well as practical application examples.
