Misconnection of Blalock-Taussig Shunt to the Pulmonary Vein: Does a Surgical Error Lead to a New Kind of Shunt? Case Report

Abstract

We encountered two cases with erroneous implantation of the modified Blalock-Taussig shunt on the pulmonary veins instead of pulmonary artery branches through thoracotomy. Imaging studies showed prominent left atrial and ventricular enlargement in both patients. This finding urged us to think about the theory of a new modification of shunt between the aorta and left atrium to promote the growth of a borderline systemic ventricle.
