Editorial to Volume 71 Issue 3

The September 2018 issue (Vol.71: 3) of Indian Phytopathology has been published. Although, the editorial committee is earnestly striving to maintain the periodicity of the Journal, authors’ cooperation is also very much essential. In this issue, there are twenty-one articles including one review, fifteen research articles and five short communications and first reports.
Crop loss, both before and after harvest is a major concern and the onus of reducing crop losses rests with plant pathologists. The review by Prof. M.P. Thakur on “Advances in post-harvest technologies and value addition of edible mushrooms” highlights the ways of enhancing profitability of mushroom growers by reducing the post-harvest losses through value addition.
The fifteen research articles and five short communications are on various crops from cereals like rice and wheat; fruit crops like banana, citrus and grapes; vegetable crops like carrot, cucumber, eggplant, potato and tomato; one each on mung bean, garlic, Indian mustard, cleome and an ornamental plant Euonymus japonicus. Major diseases covered are anthracnose, blight, bunt, downy mildew and powdery mildew. There are articles on characterization of pathogens, locating resistance and integrated disease management besides new reports.
The occurrence of a new species of Sporidesmium binserum in Almora, India; Orobanche cernua on Allium sativum and Bremia lactucae on Sonches asper and S.tenerrimus are the new records.
The editorial team, the executive committee and business manager have put in lot of efforts to bring this publication. However, the authors are primarily responsible to maintain the standard of the Journal. I reiterate my request to the authors to send the best results to Indian Phytopathology and cooperate with the editorial team to maintain the high standards of the Journal.
