Abstract
Phytopharmaceuticals, plant-based drug therapy, has a long tradition in gastrointestinal and urogenital indications. Use of specific plant species to obtain standardized extracts during the production of phytopharmaceuticals is prerequisite for the therapeutic success and their rational use, and to ensure drug efficacy. Profound knowledge of plant species is of utmost importance to ensure the extraction of the active compounds in the preparation of any herbal remedy. Standardised extracts are indispensable to ensure the concentration of the relative substances for therapeutic efficacy and to establish a classic dose–effectiveness approach.
