Abstract
In order to secure its exports of liquefied natural gas, the Kuwait Integrated Petroleum Industries Company (KIPIC) has launched the construction of a giant terminal on the Al‐Zour site, in Kuwait. This project includes the construction of 8 storage tanks with an individual capacity of 225,000 m3 (diameter 96 m, height 45 m). HDEC and TERRASOL have proposed for this project a foundation system on a soil reinforced by rigid inclusions, which is an innovative and unprecedented solution for tanks of such important dimensions. The design of the rigid inclusions was carried out following ASIRI recommendations. This project, currently underway, demonstrates that a solution of rigid inclusions for the tank foundations is technically and economically an interesting and convenient approach.
