Sommario
I disturbi del sonno rappresentano uno dei principali sintomi della menopausa e sono causati da diversi fattori. Cambiamenti ormonali come la riduzione dei livelli di estrogeni e i conseguenti sintomi vasomotori insieme a disturbi dell’umore come depressione e ansia potrebbero contribuire all’insorgenza dei disturbi del sonno. Inoltre, anche l’obesità, con l’aumento dell’infiammazione o attraverso l’apnea ostruttiva del sonno, potrebbe contribuirne all’insorgenza. Nelle donne con disturbi del sonno gravi che compromettono la qualità della vita, è possibile ricorrere a trattamenti farmacologici che comprendono sia la terapia ormonale sostitutiva che la terapia farmacologica non ormonale. Inoltre, le strategie nutrizionali risultano fondamentali perché potrebbero contribuire a gestire i disturbi del sonno correlati alla menopausa, in particolare affrontando l’obesità e il sovrappeso. Inoltre, alcuni alimenti, come la soia, il pesce, i cereali integrali, le verdure e la frutta potrebbero ridurre sintomi come i sintomi vasomotori e depressione, correlati ai disturbi del sonno nelle donne in post-menopausa.
