Obesità e rischio di carcinoma della tiroide

Nelle ultime tre decadi la prevalenza dell’obesità è cresciuta parallelamente all’incidenza del carcinoma. Per tale motivo sono stati effettuati diversi studi volti a indagare l’esistenza di un possibile nesso causale fra i due fenomeni. Nonostante le numerose limitazioni, legate alla natura osservazionale degli studi, i dati al momento disponibili indicano che l’obesità rappresenta un fattore di rischio per l’insorgenza delle neoplasie tiroidee. I meccanismi causali rimangono oggetto di discussione.
