La leptina nella fisiologia e patologia della funzione riproduttiva femminile

Sommario

La leptina ha un ruolo fondamentale nell’integrazione tra le riserve energetiche (il tessuto adiposo) e la funzione riproduttiva. I circuiti neuroendocrini ipotalamici sono la struttura deputata a tale integrazione. La leptina ha anche un ruolo fondamentale nell’innesco dello sviluppo puberale. Alterazioni in eccesso e in difetto del bilancio energetico alterano le concentrazioni ematiche di leptina. In alcune patologie, la somministrazione di leptina ha risultati terapeutici molto interessanti. Nella sindrome dell’ovaio policistico, esistono ancora aspetti oscuri sul possibile ruolo di leptina in relazione alla frequente presenza di obesità, soprattutto addomino-viscerale, e i disordini metabolici associati alla sindrome stessa.
