Dr. Arun Kumar Bhaduri passed away on April 27, 2022 at the age of 62 years. Dr. Bhaduri was a member of IIW for nearly 20 years as an active participant in the technical commissions and as a member of the Technical Management Board, Board of Directors, and Editorial Board of Welding in the World.

He earned a B.S. (1983) and PhD (1992) in Metallurgical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology-Kharagpur. He joined the Indira Gandhi Research Center in 1984 as a Scientific Officer and progressed through a number of scientific and management roles until eventually serving as Laboratory Director from 2016 to 2020. From 2006 to 2020, he was also on the faculty of the Homi Bhabha National Institute, where he supervised both graduate and undergraduate students.

Dr. Bhaduri’s involvement in IIW began in 2005 as the Indian delegate to Commission II. He served as the Vice Chair for C-II from 2014 to 2021. He also participated as a delegate to C-V and C-IX. He served as a member of the Technical Management Board from 2007–2010, and as a member of the Board of Directors from 2016–2019. He was always a strong supporter of Welding in the World. He was selected as one of the original members of the Editorial Board in 2009 and continued to serve in that role until his untimely passing. He also co-authored 18 papers published in Welding in the World and was very active as a Principal Reviewer. In recognition of his career achievements and technical impact within the welding community, he was elected a Fellow of IIW in 2021.

Dr. Bhaduri will be remembered by the IIW community not only for his technical impact and service to the society, but as a kind and gentle man who greeted everyone with a warm smile and a pleasant greeting. He leaves behind a wife, son and daughter, and many students and colleagues who will always have a good memory when they think of him.
