Abstract

Pulse compression technique enables the radar waveform designers to attain simultaneously range resolution corresponding to the short duration pulse at the receiver and desired energy of long duration pulse at the transmitter. The pulse compression techniques are commonly used in high-range resolution radar systems to discriminate closely spaced targets. P4 polyphase codes can be used as pulse compression waveform in high-range resolution radar systems. Nevertheless, pulse compression codes are generating an unwanted autocorrelation sidelobes at the output of the pulse compressor. In this paper, sidelobes reduction filters are proposed to reduce peak sidelobe level of P4 polyphase codes. The weights of the proposed sidelobe reduction filters are optimized by using modified genetic algorithm. The proposed techniques significantly reduced sidelobes level. The synthesized results of proposed techniques are shown to be better than the results available in the literature.
