Abstract
Rheum spiciforme Royle (Polygonaceae) is reported as a new record from the Kashmir valley, India. A detailed taxonomic description and colored photographs of diagnostic features are provided to validate this new plant record for the region and to facilitate its easier field identification. The species shows rare distribution in the alpine regions of the valley and various factors pose threat to the existence of this important medicinal plant species. Therefore, the documentation of this species assumes significance for devising conservation strategies and sustainable management.
