Engineering service provider Ricardo has considerable expertise when it comes to high-performance engines. Among others, it developed and manufactures the 3.8-l V8 bi-turbo engines which are deployed in McLaren's current super sports cars. We met with Dr. Richard Osborne, Global Technical Expert for Gasoline Combustion, to discuss supercharging, downsizing and the possibilities and hurdles of electrification.
Dr. Richard Osborne was born in St. Albans, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom in 1977. After graduating with a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering and Material Science from Oxford University in 1999, he earned a PhD from the University of Brighton on the subject "Controlled Auto-Ignition Processes in the Gasoline Engine" in 2010. Parallel to his academic efforts, he started his professional career with Ricardo back in 1999 as Project Engineer Performance and Calibration at the Shoreham Technical Centre.
