An automotive industry supplier will use high-rotation atomizers for coating plastic components in its Hungarian production facility. According to the manufacturer, these high-rotation atomizers are more efficient than conventional spray guns, promising increased productivity and reduced paint consumption.

Traditionally, plastic parts are painted using conventional spray guns. However, the use of high-rotation atomizers is becoming increasingly profitable as prices for materials and cleaning rise. Following suit, international supplier Valeo opted to use high-rotation atomizers from Dürr's Eco Bell series for coating plastic parts at its site in Hungary. According to the manufacturer, these atomizers are designed to handle demanding paint tasks with high quality, reduced paint consumption, and short rinsing times.

Application

In the future, a rotary atomizer mounted on a Kawasaki painting robot will be responsible for painting the plastic interiors of electric vehicles at Valeo. Dürr is supplying all necessary equipment for the new painting facility, from paint supply to application, including an Eco Pump-AD package, a fluid board, a two-component mixing and dosing system and the high-voltage-free rotary atomizer.

Before implementation, Dürr had to ensure the rotary atomizer's technology was compatible with Valeo's processes and specifications. Dürr and integrator Erma Concept worked collaboratively to validate and prove compatibility in the Erma Lab test laboratory.

Advantages

The manufacturer cites the Eco Bell's excellent coating quality and ultimately, its cost-effectiveness as its most significant advantages. According to Dürr, the robot arm's high application efficiency and upstream mixer block minimize paint and rinsing agent consumption as well as cleaning effort. In addition, the cycle time can be reduced compared to the previous application, increasing productivity. The supplier suggests that while high-rotation atomizers may require a higher initial investment, the savings and efficiency gains quickly offset these costs particularly given the rising costs of paint and rinsing agents. Lower paint loss and rinsing agent consumption increase the sustainability of the painting process.
