Die Therapie des Übergewichts bei Adipositas und Typ-2-Diabetes erfordert enorme Anstrengungen. Eine proteinreiche Kost zur Gewichts- und Glykämiekontrolle kann unterstützend wirken. Dabei stehen aber den Vorteilen einer stärkeren Sättigung die Befürchtungen der Nierenschädigung gegenüber. Was jedoch bei manifester Niereninsuffizienz gesichert ist, bleibt bei geringergradiger Nierenfunktionseinschränkung nach derzeitiger Datenlage spekulativ.
