Die ersten Empfehlungen (JNC1) gab es Ende der 1970er-Jahre. 2017 und 2018 war es wieder soweit, die amerikanischen und europäischen Fachgesellschaften veröffentlichten ihre Hochdruckempfehlungen — mit unterschiedlichen Ergebnissen.
