Haustier-assoziierte Infektionen sind nicht selten. Verschiedene Erreger können von den Tieren auf den Menschen übertragen werden und Infektionen auslösen. Besonders disponiert sind kleine Kinder, ältere Menschen und Personen mit beeinträchtigter Immunabwehr. Durch Beachtung einiger Grundregeln bezüglich des Umgangs mit den Tieren lassen sich solche Infektionen weitgehend vermeiden.
