Bei Kindern und Jugendlichen treten Depressionen immer häufiger und immer früher auf. Die unterschiedliche Symptomatik gegenüber Erwachsenen erschwert die Diagnose, was in der Folge zu einer Verzögerung in der Diagnosestellung führt. Therapeutische Interventionen sollten aber wegen der hohen Rate an Chronifizierungen und psychosozialen Folgeproblemen frühzeitig erfolgen.
