Modifikationen der intensiven Chemotherapie wie auch die Einführung der Hochdosis-Chemotherapie mit anschließender autologer Stammzelltransplantation in die Erstlinientherapie haben zu einer deutlichen Verbesserung der Prognose von metastasierten Neuroblastomen geführt. Die Rolle der radikalen Tumorresektion ist dabei bis heute unklar.
