Für die Kryokonservierung von Keimzellen und Keimgewebe sowie deren Lagerung und Transport stehen verschiedene Verfahren zur Verfügung. Manche Schritte sind nicht einheitlich geregelt, zum Teil aufgrund spezifischer Anforderungen der Methoden. Einige Fallstricke, die das Gewebe gefährden, gilt es zu vermeiden.
