Die akute Pankreatitis verläuft meist selbstlimitierend mit geringer Morbidität und Mortalität. In ca. 20% der Fälle kommt es jedoch zur Eskalation mit lokalen Komplikationen, generalisierter Entzündungsreaktion, Organversagen — und hoher Mortalität bis zu 30%. Eine frühe Diagnose ist essenziell für die Therapie und die Prognose.
