Fast in jeder Hausarztpraxis steht ein Ultraschallgerät. Da „das Schallen“ wenig kostet, schnell gemacht ist und keine Nebenwirkungen hat, wird es häufiger durchgeführt als nötig. Im Fall des Schilddrüsen-Screenings birgt dieses Vorgehen aber Gefahren für die Patienten.
