Eine primäre Aortitis tritt selten isoliert auf, sondern meist im Rahmen von Großgefäßvaskulitiden. Symptomatik und Bildgebung helfen, das Befallsmuster einzugrenzen. Ein akutes Aortensyndrom ist in der Initialphase eine Rarität. Aber im Langzeitverlauf steigt das Risiko für ein Aortenaneurysma. Eine operative oder interventionelle Reparatur ist nur bei großen oder schnell wachsenden abdominalen Aortenaneurysmen indiziert.
