Pflanzliche Arzneimittel werden vorrangig in der ambulanten ärztlichen Praxis und weniger in Kliniken eingesetzt. Abgesehen von Silibinin bei der Knollenblätterpilzvergiftung und Colchicin beim Gichtanfall finden sie kaum Anwendung bei akuten Erkrankungen. Ihre Domäne sind eher subakute und chronischen Erkrankungen.
