Die allergische Rhinitis ist einerseits sehr häufig, wird aber andererseits oft unterschätzt und manchmal sogar bagatellisiert. Neben Beeinträchtigungen in Schule, Arbeit, Freizeit und beim Sport leiden betroffene Kinder und Erwachsene auch unter Schlafstörungen. Darüber hinaus droht ein Etagenwechsel zum Asthma. Trotzdem werden leider viele Patienten ärztlich und allergologisch entweder gar nicht oder sogar falsch behandelt.
