Abriebbedingte „Pseudotumoren“ rund ums Hüftgelenk, Löcher im Knochen, Schwermetalle im Blut: Was Metall-auf-Metall-Hüftprothesen, sog. MoM-Implantate, im Körper von Patienten anrichten können, ist erschreckend. Den Schmerzgeplagten bleibt oft nur die Wechseloperation. Britische Orthopäden fordern aktuell, MoM-Schaftimplantate zu verbieten; die Rate notwendiger Revisionseingriffe sei zu hoch. In Deutschland hat sich die Fachgesellschaft jetzt für jährliche Kontrolluntersuchungen bei Trägern bestimmter Risikoprodukte ausgesprochen.
