Abstract
The construction industry is one of the sectors that, in recent years, has caused a lot of environmental pollution and imposed costs on communities and the environment. However, these costs are not taken into account in the price of services. This study addresses the environmental life cycle costs of high-rise construction projects in Tehran Metropolitan City during the construction phase. This study assessed all the costs of the construction site and the environmental impacts of the construction activities. According to the results, construction consumables, labor, and environmental impacts accounted for 54%, 27%, and 13% of the total costs, respectively. The sensitivity analysis showed that if the cost of carbon (central cost) increases to 0.057 €/kg CO2, the share of carbon cost in the construction cost will go up from 14.4 (GFA) to 39.1 (GFA). If the carbon cost (upper cost) of 0.94 €/kg is adopted as the external cost factor of carbon emission, the construction cost will increase significantly to 644(GFA), revealing that reducing CO2 emissions had the greatest effect on the environmental costs. Implementing this model in the early stages of building design can help stakeholders and decision-makers construct sustainable buildings.
