Mobile Device Use in Dermatologic Patient Care

Abstract

Rapidly evolving technology, improved mobile device optics, and the uniquely visual nature of dermatology all promote mobile device use in the clinic. This paper examines how dermatologists use mobile device technology in direct patient care. We discuss mobile applications (apps) for both dermatologists and patients, as well as for integration with the electronic health record. Furthermore, we discuss aspects of teledermatology (including teledermoscopy), both from consults from a primary care provider and in using teledermatology to directly connect to the patient. Finally, we address patient perception of mobile devices in the clinic.
