Abstract

Background

In the present study, we examined the changes in gene expression regulating the cell cycle and the gene of antioxidant protection system in carbon tetrachloride-induced toxic hepatitis after 24 and 72 h of treatment with carbon tetrachloride.

Objective

Toxic hepatitis was modeled in male albino mongrel rats divided into seven groups depending on the dose of carbon tetrachloride administered. After 24 and 72 h, the rats were anesthetized and mRNA levels of Ripk1, Cdkn1a, Gclc genes were examined in a liver homogenate.

Results

There was a significant dose-dependent change in the Ripk1 gene expression after 24 and 72 h of carbon tetrachloride administration (p < 0.001), as well as a dose-dependent change in the expression of the Cdkn1a (p < 0.05) and Gclc (p < 0.001) genes on the 3rd day after the carbon tetrachloride administration.

Conclusion

This data may indicate the involvement of the investigated genes in carbon tetrachloride metabolism in liver cells at various stages.
