Abstract

The paper presents analytical and experimental results for verifying the blast resistant performance of the earth covered magazines (ECM) which are fabricated by corrugated steel plates with newly proposed section profiles. Many magazine structures have been opting for corrugated steel plate structures as it displays superior results in protective performance against impact load, and cost effective compared to reinforced concrete structures. Upon applying blast load against the protective structure, the behaviour of the structure can be divided into local and global behaviour depending on the location of the impact. This investigation has been performed by a series of lab experiments followed by numerical analyses. For numerical analysis, structural analysis software, LS-DYNA has been used, and the result of the analysis shows bolted joints of corrugated steel plates did not suffer any fracture, displacement, as well as no destruction of the steel surrounding the bolts.
