Abstract

In recent years, scientists have innovated various novel diagnostic tools for the precocious determination of disorders resulting from heavy metal toxicity. The interaction of these heavy metals with the biological system may produce toxicity that is either acute or chronic. There are certain nanomaterials that possess enzyme-like properties, also called nanozymes, which are very prevalent nowadays because of their high efficacy and detection sensitivity towards various heavy metals. These are more stable and cheaper to prepare as compared to natural enzymes. These nanozymes can be used in a variety of fields such as wastewater monitoring, clinical diagnosis and biosensing. This article covers the basic definition of nanozymes, various factors that can affect the activity of the nanozymes, their classification according to their active components and activity, different methods of their preparation and various challenges faced in the field of nanozymes.
