Abstract

A Fabry Perot resonator antenna with high gain is designed and a novel technique is proposed for improving the impedance bandwidth for the Fabry Perot resonator antenna. The circularly polarized antenna is designed using truncated corners to the square patch. The enhancement in antenna gain is obtained by using the Fabry Perot resonator principle in which the dielectric superstrate is placed above the antenna. The enhancement in impedance bandwidth of the antenna is obtained by placing reactive impedance surface (RIS) in the middle of the truncated patch and ground plane. The dielectric superstrate and RIS structure are combined to the truncated corner square patch for improving the gain and impedance bandwidth. The proposed antenna achieved a 11.6% enhancement in impedance bandwidth over the conventional square patch with a corner truncated antenna and 6dBi enhancement in antenna gain over the conventional square patch with a corner truncated antenna. The antenna has achieved 3 dB axial ratio bandwidth of 2.9%.
