Since time immemorial, wetlands have served as conduits of harmonious interplay between nature and humans. They infuse the glorious and tranquil transition between land and water and they provide extensive ecosystem services and attractions for humans through eco-tourism.

In this special feature, we provide an international perspective on eco-healthy wetlands through the eyes of scientists from Asia and Europe who participated in the workshop Eco-healthy Wetlands – Processes and Response held October 20–23, 2010 in Qingdao, China. We hope that you will appreciate the viewpoints offered by the participants who seek common ground to solve problems and find solutions to support sound wetland management and stewardship in the 21st century.
