Maurice Raynaud beschrieb im Jahre 1862 das erste Mal anfallsartig auftretende Vasospasmen peripherer Arterien mit den typischen Tricolorephänomen: Blässe durch Ischämie, Blauverfärbung durch Zyanose und Rotverfärbung durch reaktive Hyperämie. Nicht in allen Fällen ist die Klinik so typisch dreiphasig wie in den Lehrbüchern beschrieben.
