Abstract
Fourteen polymorphic microsatellite loci were isolated in the pan-oriental narrow-mouthed toad, Microhyla ornata, which is one of the smallest anuran species. We genotyped one population from Lishui, Zhejiang Province, China (N = 29). The results showed that the mean number of observed alleles per locus was 11 (with a range from 8 to 15). Observed and expected heterozygosity values ranged from 0.250 to 0.931 and from 0.538 to 0.866 respectively. One locus (MO10) showed significant departure from Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium and no linkage disequilibrium was found among any pairwise loci. These highly informative microsatellite markers should be useful for population genetic analyses of M. ornata and other species in Microhylidae.
